Replenish

Today is my birthday! And much like the season of Spring, it marks a beginning. A time for newness. Something refreshing and vibrant like the buds of spring flowers coming out to soak up the sun for the first of many days to come.

Spring is the season of replenishment. The rains have come and supplied what was lacking. Day is now longer than night. It’s a time of renewal. We shed our winter wear and welcome the feel of warmer winds in our hair and on our skin.

We find ourselves clearing out old things to make space. Not space for other things. Just space allowing us to see things that haven’t been seen in a long while. We finally let go of things that no longer hold the memories they once did, allowing room for new ones to be created.

In many ways, Spring sounds like the popping of a bottle of champagne or a cold brew. It’s the crack of the bat at the baseball field and the birthday celebrations in the park on a Saturday afternoon. It’s the bicycles that were put away late last Fall. It’s the viewing of online college acceptance letters that end with a shout of “YES”, representative of the personal commitment to making it happen. (Yes, I went there!)

Spring is the time that we rethink our New Year’s pledges and purposefully redefine them in a way that better matches the effort that we want to put forth toward achieving them! It’s a spirited yet gentle season that gives way to what’s possible in the coming months.

For me, the start of my new year as marked by this date is about replenishing. I welcome it with the anticipation of all things good and gratitude for what will be.

What will your birthday be about this year?
